December 18, 2015: “Prohibition officially ended in Bellevue last Friday and in Wilkinsburg last month, about 82 years after the nationwide ban on alcohol was lifted in 1933.
Despite the lifting of the ban, in towns such as Bellevue and Wilkinsburg, the law wasn’t repealed until this year.
Wilkinsburg in May approved allowing alcohol sales within its borders. Marlee Gallagher of the Wilkinsburg Community Development Corp. said the Wilkinsburg Chamber of Commerce hosted an event Nov. 10 at Salvatore’s Pizza House on Penn Avenue, which featured Wilkinsburg’s first-ever alcohol sales since 1935.” Read more from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
