March 15, 2015: Groups in Wilkinsburg and Bellevue, both of which have been “dry towns” since 1935, are working to overturn laws prohibiting retail alcohol sales. In towns burdened by high commercial vacancy rates, legalizing alcohol sales in grocery stores, restaurants and other establishments could go a long way to energizing economic development, officials said. Organizers in Wilkinsburg and Bellevue have collected enough petition signatures to get referendums on the May 19 ballot asking voters to allow retail alcohol sales. Read the full Trib article.
