The WCDC's Design Committee
Creating a vibrant business district, improving quality of life in Wilkinsburg
About the Committee
The Design Committee works to create a unified, vibrant business district by developing plans for physical improvements such as façade improvements, beautification projects, historic preservation, and planning & zoning recommendations. Current projects include providing technical assistance on façade improvements to update storefronts, coordinating designs for street furniture and other streetscape improvements, securing vacant buildings, and supporting public art installations.
This committee meets via zoom on the first Monday of every month from 5:30 to 6:30pm. If you are interested in joining, please email Marina Balko: firstname.lastname@example.org
Call for Artists – The WCDC’s Design Committee is issuing an RFQ (Request For Qualifications) for artists interested in participating in a public art project along the Wood Street commercial corridor in Wilkinsburg. The RFQ invites artists to send their qualifications to be reviewed by a selection panel but does not require a specific proposal or idea to be submitted. Once RFQ’s are reviewed, two professional artists will be selected to develop one proposal each for a public artwork to be permanently displayed. Submissions are due May 1st, 2021.
The WCDC is currently accepting letters of interest (LOIs) from businesses and building owners who would like to rennovate thier façades. To express interest please email: email@example.com and we will get back to you with information and a template to make a submission. LOIs are due March 20th, 2021.
We suggest prospective applicants review the WCDC’s Design Guidelines and Façade Renovation Application* for such projects. Applications may also be made at anytime, although the program funds may not be readily available.
*Some improvement work must be reviewed by the Borough of Wilkinsburg, which requires a separate application. Review the Commission’s application.
